Laser Hair Removal
Lasers are
designed to remove unwanted hair through selective
photothermolysis. This process involves selective absorption of
an intense light pulse at wavelengths that are absorbed by the
targets (hair follicles) but not by the surrounding tissue.
Melanin in the hair bulb absorbs the light emitted by the laser
at specific wavelengths, and this energy converts into heat,
causing the selective destruction of the hair bulb.
We use the
world's most advanced treatments for hair removal, the Candela
GentleLASE PlusŪ alexandrite laser and the Cynosure Smartepil
IIŪ Nd:YAG laser. These laser products represent the latest
generation in able to treat a broad spectrum of skin types,
including darker and tanned skin.
The end result is destruction of the hair or
restriction of re-growth. The hair follicles in the active
growth phase absorb the most amount of laser energy due to the
high concentration of pigment.
Optimum removal of all or most hair in a given
region requires 3 to 4 sessions separated by four- to six-week
intervals.
What affects the appearance of body hair?

Body hair is
affected by numerous factors, including body location, age,
hormone levels, ethnicity and medication use. These factors
influence the color, length and coarseness of body hair, as well
as the actual number of hairs in the active growth phase.

How does laser hair removal work?
The laser beam passes through the skin and is
absorbed in the hair follicle residing underneath the skin's
surface.
The laser energy destroys the follicle with the heat that it
generates. Destroyed hairs are then either dissolved within the
skin or rejected by the body within the next several days.

How many treatments will be needed?
Laser treatment impairs the growth of hair
follicles when they are in the growth cycle at the time of
treatment. All hair follicles are not active at the same time.
This is why you need more than one treatment. Most people
require approximately four to six treatments to have desired
results.
What other options exist for hair removal?
· Shaving
Shaving doesn't affect the coarseness, thickness, growth rate or
cycle of the shaved hair. It is a temporary solution and
requires a constant commitment to maintaining a hair-free
appearance.
· Tweezing
Painful and time consuming, tweezing is
impractical for large areas.
· Waxing
This procedure can cover a large area at one time
and results may last for four to six weeks. Waxing is also
painful and can often cause allergic reactions and inflammation
of the hair follicle.
· Electrolysis
This involves inserting a needle into each hair
follicle and applying an electrical current. Expertly used, it
can be successful in eliminating hair permanently. Electrolysis
destroys only one hair follicle at a time. It is a tedious,
time-consuming process that can go on for years. Risks of
electrolysis include scarring and infection.
